Ariana Grande, 22, has millions of fans to thank for her success, but in her mind, one stands above the rest. Ari’s grandmother, Marjorie “Nonna” Grande, is one of her biggest supporters, and she let the world know that by bringing her to the American Music Awards! As her Nonna adorably watched Ariana win the Favorite Pop/Rock Female award from the front row, Ariana thanked her grandma in her emotional acceptance speech — and couldn’t help choking up!
Looking overwhelmed with joy as she walked up on stage to accept her award, Ariana immediately thanked all of her fans. Holding back tears, Ari then gushed over her beloved grandma! “I think I owe a lot of this to my Nonna who made sure to remind me that she voted. She goes, ‘Ariana I went on the computer, I voted, so I think you’ll win,'” Ariana said with a hilarious impression of Nonna.
Aww, even Nonna knew how major the award was to Ari! As if Ariana’s speech wasn’t sweet enough, she held Nonna’s hand and danced with her during the show. Plus, Nonna got to watch her granddaughter rock the stage for her performance of “Focus,” which had to make for quite the proud moment!
On the way home from their special night together, Ariana captured some funny moments with Nonna in the car. In a video on Ari’s Instagram, Nonna even commented on how amazing the night was! “I feel wonderful,” Nonna said in the vid. “I didn’t know I was that good!”
Although Ariana has proved she’s close with Nonna on social media prior to the AMAs, we’re so glad that millions of viewers got to witness it on live TV! Now we just have one question for Ari: Can Nonna be her date to every awards show?
