Kylie is known for her wild hair extensions, keeping us all on our toes for the latest trend in hair color. Instead of living your hair dreams vicariously through Kylie, you may soon be able to afford weekly hair extensions of your own. Holla!
Carnegie Mellon University has developed 3D printing technology called furbrication, allowing us to print hair in different colors using a standard 3D printer. The catch is that the "hair" is actually a flexible plastic material. The material does have the flowy look look of hair (kind of) - check it out in the video below:
The process definitely has some potential, and the developers are on the right track with the long-term vision to provide easy, at-home extensions that don't cost a bajillion dollars like Kylie's. Hopefully the team at Carnegie will develop a material that is more like actual hair and not just the kind troll dolls have, as shown in the video (Kylie would never sport that ratchet look.)
